Possibly J Craig Barr and Cook, circa 1905. 2-storey 3-bay, L-plan Arts and Crafts villa with corner tower and tile-hung (above cill course) 1st floor. Harled with sandstone ashlar dressings at ground. 1st floor cill course. Stone mullions.
S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: French window to centre at ground with small horizontal 4-light window abutting eaves above, bay to right with slightly advanced 4-part window giving
way to small mock half-timbered gable with canted oriel; bipartite to ground left. Angle tower (see below) to outer left.
SW TOWER: corniced canted tripartite at ground corbelled to round at 1st floor with 3 small windows and squat swept conical roof.
W ELEVATION: irregular gabled elevation with angle tower to outer right (see above), full-height chimney breast to centre and left skew swept low over small 1st floor window and porch at outer left.
N (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: recessed face to right with large integral porch under swept roof to outer right, door on return to right; 2 small windows to left
below tile-hung gabled 1st floor with decoratively-astragalled stair window, small catslide-roofed dormer in re-entrant to right and narrow 2-storey bay to left with small window close to eaves. Asymmetrically-fenestrated gable projecting to outer left.
E ELEVATION: harled elevation with variety of elements including gabled bay to left.
INTERIOR: not inspected, 2001.
TERRACE WALL: flat-coped brick terrace wall with stone steps.
James Craig Barr was apprenticed to T G Abercrombie at the Glasgow School of Art during 1898-9. He also designed nearby Foxburn (No 17 South Avenue), and Garail and Lismore (Nos 24 and 29 Thornly Park Avenue).
