Earlier 20th century. Stepped obelisk with tapering arched top. Portland stone, moulded angles on monolith. Bronze sepulchral plaques.
SE (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: 2 steps leading to memorial: stepped base with bronze World War II plaque, stone above inscribed TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN SACRED MEMORY OF THE PARISHONERS WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918 THEY DIED THAT WE MIGHT LIVE; scrolled bronze name plaque with cherub surmounting attached to main shaft, plaques with lion's head surmounting to each return; bronze Laurel wreath decoration to top.
Erected in the earlier part of the 20th Century, the memorial commemorates the 34 men of the parish of Glencorse who lost their lives in World War I. The winged angel head was intended to signify the Resurrection sent to collect the souls of the Blessed. The memorial is sited adjacent to Glencorse Parish Church (listed separately) and part of the new Glencorse Army Camp.
