Probably early 19th century, rebuilt after fire 2000. Single storey, 2-bay, rectangular-plan fishing shiel. Dry dash sandstone rubble. Ice house to E.
SE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: boarded timber door to left; boarded timber shuttered window to right.
NE (SIDE) ELEVATION: gabled with boarded timber shuttered window off-set to left of centre.
NW (REAR) ELEVATION: blank, (modern garage adjoining).
SW (SIDE) ELEVATION: gabled with pointed projection centred at ground.
Modern glazing. Rooflights to SE. Steeply-pitched grey slate roof. Coped stack to NE; circular can.
INTERIOR: not seen 1999.
ICE HOUSE: built into hillside. SE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: timber door at centre. INTERIOR: not seen.
Situated on the River Tweed (renowned for its salmon), to the E of St Thomas's Island. Despite rebuilding, an example of relatively rare building type, particularly notable for its ice house and the bulge in its gable end - a feature common to fishing shiels in the area including that on St Thomas's Island itself (not listed) and Finchy Shiel to the NE (see separate list entry). This bulge is thought to have accommodated a net boiler and would therefore, originally have had a flue above. This particular shiel is owned by the nearby Fishwick Mains (see separate list entry).
