Church designed by Peddie and Kinnear of Edinburgh, and built 1867 (monogrammed and dated). Gothic: possibly early French in inspiration, though some tracery compares eg with that in Holyrood tower top stage, or in triforium centre bvays of Glasgow Cathedral (c.1240), and use of stepped drip-moulds compares with Scots late Gothic work. Occupies a steep-sloping site with full-storey underworks to Dumbarton Road (ie S), main entrance (despite postal address) placed central in gable to Back Walk (ie N). Cruciform-plan, though with short 'cross-arms': square entrance tower, with semi-engaged stair turret with cap-house, fills SE re-entrant angle; twin-gabled transepts, rose-window in north and south gable-heads, low porch tucked into each northern re-entrant angle. Snecked ashlar, windows mostly pointed, and with plate tracery; copper-capped stair turret and tower wall-heads; otherwise, roofs are slated. Cast-iron gates and railings to Back Walk.
Ecclesiastical building in use as such.
