1936. Columnar pillar box with swept frieze to shallow-domed cap, dentilled at rim. Cast-iron. Base (painted black), shaft bearing "EVIIIR" in raised gothic lettering with crown above and "Post Office" below.
One of very few post boxes cast in the short reign of Edward VIII bearing his cipher "EVIIIR". A total of 271 letter boxes were made in 1936, 161 of which were pillar boxes. Of those still surviving the only other in Aberdeen is on Desswood Place (see separate listing).
