Earlier 19th century. 2-storey with basement (and attic to rear), 3-bay classical house forming part of terrace. Painted ashlar. Banded rustication to basement; ground floor band course; eaves course; cornice; blocking course. Architraved windows; square brackets to lower cill corners at ground floor; cornices to ground floor windows.
S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central stepped platt oversailing basement; corniced, consoled doorpiece (with later architrave); 2-leaf timber door; segmental fanlight; single window aligned above at 1st floor; timber door with letterbox fanlight aligned below at basement. Regular fenestration to flanking bays at basement, ground and 1st floors.
Predominantly plate glass timber sash and case windows (12-pane at basement). Grey slate roof; coped stacks; circular and square-plan cans.
INTERIOR: not seen 1998.
RAILINGS AND GATE: ashlar copes surmounted by spear-headed iron railings (pineapple finials delineate sections); gate to outer right.
B Group with Nos 1-12 (Inclusive) 16-27 (Inclusive), Sheriff Court (No 14), County Buildings, Monuments to James George Smith Neill, Earl of Eglinton and Wintoun, Sir James Fergusson of Kilkerran, War Memorial, and Gatepiers, Gates and Boundary Walls. The palace-fronted square as proposed by John Robertson in 1799 was not pursued, instead individual feuars were allowed to develop the square. Mutual eaves course, cornice and blocking course with remainder of terrace (No 1 slightly higher).
