Later 19th century. 15-bay terrace comprising 2-bay and 3-bay single storey attic and basement cottages, of granite rubble with long and short dressings finely finished to margins (except No 19 of granite ashlar). Base course; panelled aprons to ground floor windows; pilastered doorways corniced with consoles, panelled timber doors with letterbox fanlights; eaves course; canted dormers to attic floor.
N (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: Nos 17-23: asymmetrical; 2-bay; irregular basements, doorway to bay to right reached by stone steps, window flanking to left, pair of dormers to attic of No 17, single dormer flanked to right by modern skylight to remainder; No 25: symmetrical, 3-bay, doorway to centre of ground floor, flanked to left and right by single window, 2 dormers to attic floor; No 27: doorway to left of ground floor, flanked to right by window, rectangular dormer to left of attic floor, canted dormer to right.
W ELEVATION: gabled; blank.
S ELEVATION: irregular door and window arrangements to ground and 1st floors; predominantly canted dormers to attic floor, some modern rectangular dormers.
E ELEVATION: obscured by adjoining terrace (see separate listing).
Predominantly 4-pane and 12-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof with lead ridge. Coped stone skews with blocked skewputts. Coped granite gablehead and ridge stacks with circular and octagonal cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.
INTERIORS: not seen 1999.
GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALLS: low granite coped walls to N, with square-plan piers and gatepiers with pyramidal caps, some railings; brick coped rubble walls dividing N gardens and to rear.
B-Group with 1-15 (odd numbers) Ferryhill Place and 2-18, 20-30 and 32-36 (even numbers) Ferryhill Place (see separate listings). Brogden suggests that the earlier, E section of Ferryhill Place (see separate listings) could be by Archibald Simpson, it is similar in style to his nearby Marine Terrace and Bon Accord Square (see separate listings). This W end of the terrace bears more resemblance to Caledonian Place (see separate listing), rubble walls with finely finished dressings. However the corniced and consoled doorways, eaves and base courses and use of dormers unites the two halves, framed by the elegant deep front gardens.
