Earlier to mid 19th century. Circular-plan storm signal with World War 2 look-out in centre. Harled and white-washed circular perimeter wall with steps to S leading through segmental-arched doorway to platform. Harled rectangular-plan look-out in centre with flat roof and boarded-up openings.
This storm signal is an unusual survival, within the site of a Pictish fort, probably occupied since the 4th century. There would originally have been a tall mast in the centre of the walled enclosure, up which a large cone was hoisted to warn sailors to return to the harbour when a storm was imminent. The World War 2 look-out is of standard design.
