WORLD WAR I MONUMENT: large raised ashlar plinth with outer angle steps giving way to stepped polygonal base and pedestal with Roll of Honour, cornice and tablet inscribed:
'IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THOSE FROM
THE PARISH OF SCOONIE WHO FELL
IN THE GREAT WAR OF 1914-18'
at base of obelisk.
BOUNDARY WALL AND WORLD WAR II MONUMENT: stepped, coped ashlar wall dated '1939' to left and '1945' to right, moulded panel to centre with 4 bronze plaques bearing Roll of Honour, flanking similar plaque worded:
'TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN GRATEFUL
MEMORY OF THOSE OF THE PARISH OF
SCOONIE WHO FELL IN THE WORLD WAR
1939-1945'
The above publication gives a detailed order of service for the unveiling and dedication of the monument and gardens on the corner of Scoonie and Commercial Roads (address seems to be inaccurate) on Sunday 17th September, 1950 at 3pm. The officiating ministers were Rev G J Edwards, Rev D Doig and Rev J Martin, with the unveiling and address given by Brigadier J Ogilvy Shepherd.
