Ashlar masonry. 3-bay E elevation to public road, with slightly advanced gabled bay to centre with broad pilasters to doorpiece, panelled door and clock in gablehead in keystoned semicircular recess; flanking windows with architraves extended down to frame aprons. Gabled bay advanced to right of S elevation to main drive with canted window: roof swept down in re-entrant angle to centre.
Timber sash and case windows with 4-pane glazing pattern. Stone stacks. Grey slates.
Part of the Royal Northern Infirmary Group, together with the main block and Tweedmouth Memorial Chapel and the neighbouring Nurses Home. The lodge is a good, plain classical property prominently sited on the riverside and a strategic introduction to the hospital complex.
