18th to 19th century. 2-storey, rectangular-plan former water mill sited to W of Scar House with former forestair to 1st floor entrance to S elevation, built on ground falling to N. Some harl-pointing to roughly coursed rubble.
N ELEVATION: large, square-headed entrance, offset to right of centre at ground; small boarded grain loft entrance, set close under eaves, above. Small entrance at ground to right of centre.
S ELEVATION: former forestair to deep-set boarded door, set close under eaves, offset to left of centre. Window at 1st floor to outer left. Opening (boarded), set close under eaves, to right of centre.
E (GABLED) ELEVATION: round-arched entrance at ground; grain store door (boarded) to gablehead above.
W (GABLED) ELEVATION: blank.
Traditional graded stone tiled roof; stone ridge.
INTERIOR: not fully seen, 1998.
A relatively intact water mill perhaps acting secondarily to the steam-powered mill integral in the Scar House farm complex. The wheel is no longer evident, although the round-arched entrance to the E, along with the traditional stone tiles remain. Hume notes that the mill once had a revolving kiln vent, now missing.
