Mid to later 19th century with later alterations and additions. Single storey, 3-bay, rectangular-plan, near-symmetrical cottage with square-plan entrance porch offset to right of centre. Roughly coursed rubble. Outbuildings sited to N.
SE (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: window in entrance porch, offset to right of centre; boarded door to right return. Window in each bay flanking.
NW (REAR) ELEVATION: large window in bay to left. Small window in bay to right.
NE AND SW (SIDE) ELEVATIONS: blank with gablehead stacks. Solid ledge built up from ground spanning NE elevation.
4-pane timber sash and case windows; fixed timber-framed windows to porch. Graded stone tiled roof; stone ridge; coped skews; corniced rubble gablehead and ridge stacks; uPVC rainwater goods at rear.
INTERIOR: not seen, 1998.
OUTBUILDINGS: STORE: rubble single storey, single bay store sited to N of and at right angels to main cottage. Boarded door in gabled (SE) elevation. Centred, deep-set boarded door (lintel breaking eaves) in SW elevation. Good turf-over-flagstone roof. BYRE RANGE: single storey, 3-bay, elongated rectangular-plan byre range comprising 3, single-bay units sited to N of and parallel to main cottage. Rubble. Doorway to SE to each unit. Flagstone roof survives to 2 units to extreme N; unit to S roofless. BARN: later, rectangular-plan rubble barn to rear (NW) of main cottage with lean-to addition to S. Random rubble; corrugated-iron roof; coped skews.
BOUNDARY WALLS: rubble walls enclosing rectangular-plan garden sited to SW of main cottage. Smaller rectangular-plan garden with rubble walls to rear.
A relatively intact group of traditional Orcadian buildings, the store adjacent to the cottage of noteworthy quality with its traditional flagstone and turf roof. The area surrounding the cottage and extending to the outbuildings has been paved with large traditional flagstones.
