Later to late 19th century with later additions and alterations. Single storey with attic, L-plan English Domestic style gate lodge with single storey, flat-roofed addition to side. Squared and snecked, lightly bull-faced cream sandstone; lightly tooled ashlar dressings. Overhanging bracketed timber eaves; prominent timber brackets beneath oversailing, whitewashed harled gableheads (half-timbered to SW); timber bargeboards. Ashlar quoins; long and short surrounds to chamfered openings; flush cills.
NW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: 2-bay wing to right with boarded timber door to left; shouldered seat recess to right; full-width, lean-to verandah adjoined to front with square-plan timber columns and arched brackets forming 3-bay arcade. Gabled wing advanced to left with projecting rectangular window centred at ground. Modern window in flat-roofed addition recessed to outer left.
SW (SIDE) ELEVATION: gabled wing projecting to right with 4-light canted window centred at ground; attic window centred in surmounting gablehead; narrow window at ground off-set to left. Window centred in wing recessed to outer left.
SE (REAR) ELEVATION: original 2-bay block with windows in both bays. Flat-roofed addition to outer right.
NE (SIDE) ELEVATION: near full-width, flat-roofed addition to front. Attic window in surmounting gablehead.
Some small-pane and plate glass timber windows; modern glazing in part. Red tile roof; pantile ridging. Corniced sandstone stacks; circular cans.
INTERIOR: not seen 1998.
Part of the Bonkyl Lodge estate - see separate list entry for associated the walled garden. A well-detailed gate lodge which, although extended, remains fundamentally intact - the arcaded verandah, shouldered seat recess and oversailing gableheads being particularly notable.
