Possibly late 18th century with later additions and alterations. Symmetrical 2-storey, 3-bay classically-detailed house with single storey wing at rear forming L-plan; lean-to porch in rear re-entrant angle. Tooled cream sandstone rubble; sandstone ashlar dressings; harled porch. Droved quoins; droved long and short surrounds to openings; projecting cills.
SE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: steps to deep-set timber panelled door centred at ground; rectangular fanlight with crossed astragals; plain, corniced door surround; single window aligned at 1st floor. Single windows at both floors in flanking bays.
SW (SIDE) ELEVATION: original block with single window at ground in bay to right. Single storey wing recessed to left with projecting porch in bay to outer right; single windows in 2 bays to left; boarded timber door in bay to outer left.
NW (REAR) ELEVATION: blind elevation to projecting wing to outer left; lean to porch recessed to right. Original block with stair window at centre; single windows at both floors in bay to outer right.
NE (SIDE) ELEVATION: original block with single windows at both floors in bay to right; single window in single storey wing adjoined to outer right.
Predominantly 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows; modern glazing to rear wing. Grey slate roof with diamond pattern as motif to centre front; raised skews; corniced brick apex stacks to main block; central ridge stack to rear wing; various circular cans. Replacement rainwater goods.
INTERIOR: not seen 1998.
GARDEN WALLS: rubble walls partially enclosing site.
A prominently sited, plain classical style farmhouse with much of its original detailing intact. Rutherfurd notes a Mr William Aiton as farmer here in 1866. See separate list entry for nearby Crowfootbank Farm Cottages.
