Mid-late 19th century. Free-standing, 2-sided, hollow, cast-iron milepost. Painted white with black painted lettering; arrows; trim and surmounting finial. Indicator panel with S pointing arrow and lettering; 'DUNFERMLINE 6 MILES'; indicator panel with S pointing arrow and lettering; 'RUMBLING BRIDGE - MILES'.
Manufactured at the Bonnybridge Foundry. The milepost formerly indicated Rumbling Bridge as 10 ? miles away. A similar milepost in Dunfermline Parish is also situated along the A823, S of Muirside, (NT 0893 9057). Three further mileposts are situated on the Dunfermline to Rumbling Bridge section of the A823 and are listed in Saline Parish (see LB45592) (NT 043 955, NT 038 955, NT 022 977). They are of particular interest for their survival and the continuous run on a short stretch of road.
