Statement of Interest

Haughhead Bridge takes Blantyre Farm Road over the river Clyde and connects Uddingston with Blantyre Parish. Originally called the Red Brig due to the rich red sandstone from which it was constructed, it provided a better crossing than the hazardous ford previously at this site. Nearby, on the east bank, lies a small tollhouse, contemporary with the bridge (see separate list description).
