Later 19th century. Whinstone rubble ice house comprising brick vaulted passage accessing deep, brick-vaulted, circular-plan chamber to NW. Cream sandstone ashlar dressings to round-arched doorway centred in arched frontispiece (door/gate missing).
With its brick-vaulted passage, circular-plan chamber and round-arched entrance, this ice house, formerly associated with the nearby, now ruinous Clifton Park House, is a good example of its type. Although the house dates from 1846 and the time of Robert Kerr Elliot, the ice house is thought to be of a later date - possibly being commissioned by Robert Henry Elliot, who inherited Clifton upon the death of his father in 1873. Other listings within the estate include Clifton Lodge, Clifton Park stables and the walled garden (see separate entries).
