Sir James Miller, 1931. 2-storey, 5-bay, irregular-plan and height, flat-roofed Art Deco modern house. Whitewashed rendered brick; brick base course. Projecting cills.
N (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: recessed bay to outer left comprising replacement steel door to ground. Advanced bay to left comprising single window at ground and 1st floor to outer left; timber door to right; cantilevered overhang; oculus at 1st floor. Narrow triangular oriel stair window rising through ground and 1st floors in advanced bay to right. Recessed bay to right comprising window at ground to left.
Painted, steel windows; hopper and casement openings to upper panes; mottled glass to stair window.
INTERIOR: not seen 1997.
BOUNDARY WALLS, GATEPIERS AND GATES: low coped stepped, sandstone wall. Iron piers flanking pedestrian and vehicular entrances to outer left and right; iron gates.
An early example of modernist architecture in Scotland, with the majority of flat-roofed, modern-styled houses built between 1933 38. Notable for retaining in good condition, prominent modernist features, including glazing, triangular oriel stairway and door.
