Description

Earlier to mid 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay house in irregular terrace with pilastered doorpiece and round stair tower to rear. Stugged squared and snecked stone with base course, ashlar margins; rubble to rear.

SW ELEVATION: pilastered and corniced doorpiece to centre with tablet to centre of blocking course and 2-pane fanlight, modern door; small windows flanking at ground and regular window above. Flanking bays windowed with further small window to left of window to right at 1st floor.

NE ELEVATION: harled stair tower to rear with tall multi-pane stair window at centre with catslide roof, flanking window arrangement as on SW elevation.

8-pane and plate glass timber sash and case windows. Grey slates. Brick end stacks. Stone coping to NW skews. Cast-iron rooflight.

INTERIOR: includes common close to winding stone stair at rear.

Statement of Interest

Part of the Hill Street Conservation Area. A good example of a terraced, classically detailed burgh house. The street was formerly known as Hill Place.
