17th/18th century; restored, kitchen block added and other alterations late 1930s by J Donald Mills of Mills and Shepherd architects. 3-storey and attic, 3-bay house with much of the original 3-bay front elevation to close now masked by kitchen block. Rubble sandstone, harled front and kitchen block, slate roof, crowstepped gables, coped end stacks. 2- and 4-pane timber sash and case windows with early-mid 18th century 12-pane window to rear containing some old (original?) glass. Door with sidelights to close formed from window, metal window above in enlarged opening, swept dormer. Windows to south gable with evidence of blocked window to 1st floor.
INTERIOR: original 2-leaf fielded panel front doors and many other fielded panel doors, timber spiral staircase, Renaissance arch niche, 18th/19th century chimneypieces, plain moulded cornices.
GARDEN WALLS: Rubble walls to south, east and west, enclosing what remains of a formerly large medieval rig (the wall to the east forms part of 108, 110 South Street, listed category B, Item 108).
The title deeds suggest a seventeenth century date for this house, although much of the internal detailing appears to be 18th century. See also NOTES for 112 SOUTHSTREET (SECOND HOUSE IN CLOSE).
