Description

Early to earlier 19th century. Single storey, 3-bay gabled cottage in continuous terraced run with 2-bay former smithy workshop. Squared and snecked sandstone.

SE ELEVATION: 3 widely spaced bays, door to centre with later canopy; windows in flanking bays. 2-bay smithy to left with window to each bay. Later Lean-to extension to rear. Timber sash and case windows with 4-pane glazing pattern. Steeply pitched roof with red pantiles and slate eaves easing course. Ridge and gablehead ashlar stacks to cottage.

INTERIOR: decorative cast-iron horseshoe grate.

BOUNDARY WALLS: low rubble wall to front garden with semi-circular coping, curving round to taller square coped wall with pedestrian gate.

Statement of Interest

Prominently sited in centre of Bellsquarry on principal thoroughfare. The steep pitch of the roof suggests a possibly earlier date than that cautiously given here.
