Circa 1870 with 20th century alterations. 2 storey, 3 bay symmetrical classical house with single storey wings adjoining to N and S. Cream sandstone squared and snecked rubble with ashlar dressings. Base course; lugged architraves with decoratively carved panels incorporating star motifs at ground; dividing band course; carved, circular pattern parapet to single storey wings; architraves to 1st floor windows; dentilled eaves course; cornice; blocking course; decorative cast iron parapet to roof.
N (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: cable moulding to central, recessed round arched doorway; panelled door; plate glass fanlight; bracketed cornice with carved parapet and ball finials to doorpiece; single window to 1st floor. Bipartite windows to ground floor in flanking bays; single windows to 1st floor above; 3 light, canted dormers above between bays. 2 bay single storey wings; to E with enlarged opening to outer right incorporating modern glazed doorway, single window to outer left; to W with bipartite window to left, single window to outer right.
Predominantly plate glass, timber sash and case windows; some pivot windows to single storey wing to E. Grey slate piended roofs with some fish scale slates to main house.
INTERIOR: not seen 1996.
BOUNDARY WALLS: low coped rubble wall to street; replacement railings.
The south side of West Mayfield was largely designed in the 1870s by W Hamilton Beattie and J C Hay. A fire escape has been introduced at 1st floor level to the W.
