Later 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay irregular-plan house with entrance tower. Italianate and domestic gothic details. Grey-pink Aberdeen bond granite ashlar. Overhanging eaves.
S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: 3-bay with recessed single storey service wing adjoining to W. 3-stage engaged entrance tower; depressed-arched doorway with pointed arch hoodmould; bipartite window to 2nd stage; single window to right return; tripartite window to 3rd stage. 2-storey, 4-light canted window in gabled bay to outer left.
2 bipartite windows at ground in bay to outer left; gabled tripartite window breaking eaves at 1st floor above.
Service wing to W: tripartite window with quatrefoil oculus above in advanced and gabled central bay; eye-catching octagonal louvered ventilator with tapered roof; single-storey flat-roofed extension clasping chamfered angle to outer left.
N (REAR) ELEVATION: advanced single storey and attic wing to outer left, with conical roof to projecting stairtower; later single storey, flat-roofed extension clasping service wing to outer right; irregular fenestration to main house at centre.
E ELEVATION: advanced tripartite window with dentilled cornice and swept roof at ground to outer right; bipartite window at 1st floor above; single window set in gablehead. Lower wing adjoining to N.
W ELEVATION: advanced service wing; irregularly disposed fenestration to 1st floor behind.
Plate glass sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; tall coped gablehead and ridge stacks.
INTERIOR: encaustic tiled floor; architraved doorways and panelled doors; decorative plaster cornices; tripartite vestibule door.
FORMER STABLES: corbelled timber-framed 1st floor to coach house/ stables to N of house.
The original Tillydrine House was reputedly dismantled and re-erected in Aboyne at the turn of the century.
