Description

Circa 1812. Pair of 2-storey with attic, 2-bay classical style houses forming symmetrical 4-bay terrace. Coursed cream sandstone rubble (random rubble at rear); ashlar dressings; lightly droved ashlar margins. Polished base course; polished cill course; corniced eaves; polished blocking course. Droved rubble quoins; droved long and short rubble surrounds to openings. Single storey additions projecting at rear; harl-pointed random rubble sandstone to No 19; coursed, slightly bull-faced yellow rubble sandstone to No 20; droved yellow ashlar margins.

N (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: steps to timber panelled doors centred at ground (part-glazed to No 19); tripartite fanlight to No 19; geometric-patterned fanlight to No 20. Single windows aligned at 1st floor; canted dormer to No 19. Single windows at both floors in bays to outer left and right respectively.

S (REAR) ELEVATION: projecting additions comprising timber panelled doors off-set to right of centre; single garage doors to outer right. Regularly fenestrated at 1st floor; canted dormer to left No 19.

12-pane timber sash and case glazing; various skylights. Graded grey slate roof; pantile ridge tiling; raised skews; replacement rainwater goods. Cream rubble sandstone apex stack to No 19; cans missing; red brick apex stack to No 20; single circular can.

INTERIOR: not seen 1996.

BOUNDARY WALLS: round-arched rubble coping to random rubble wall enclosing site to front. Coped random rubble wall dividing gardens to front.

Statement of Interest

An impressive pair of houses with some good early 19th century detailing - in particular the timber sash and case glazing, timber panelled doors and enclosing boundary wall.
