Circa 1800; built out at ground in early 20th century; further extended by J R McKay, 1938; partly rebuilt subsequently. Former 3-storey and attic 7-bay classical tenement, now Post Office and public bar with offices above. Polished cream ashlar sandstone, rusticated at ground. Arcaded at ground; Post Office (No 7) with door to right; opening at centre with grille leading to common stair door (trace of original V-jointed rustication survives to left of door); public bar to left
(No 11) built out copying existing extension at ground, with larger central door, cornice and blocking course; architraved windows at 1st floor, cornice and full-width box dormer built into mansard roof.
No 7 rebuilt above ground as original with 3 piend-roofed dormers. Modern dressed rubble return to Hope Street Lane with corniced door
and round-headed windows at ground.
Timber sash and case windows; 12-pane to No 7, 28- and 20-pane to
No 11, plate glass to side. Ashlar coped skews; complicated extended roof to No 11, grey slates; ashlar stacks.
INTERIOR: good quality public bar at No 11, former bank. No 7, Post Office, has been completely rebuilt.
