Description

Early 19th century single storey terrace with cottage to S and workshop to N. Random rubble with ashlar dressings. Timber sash and case windows and modern look alike. Graded grey slates, cast-iron rooflights to workshop, rendered end stack to S, brick mutual stack. 3-bay cottage with timber boarded door to centre, windows flanking. Blank end gable to Mount Vernon Road. Workshop to N has enlarged opening to left, 2 (later) bipartites to right.

INTERIOR of workshop: late 19th century, possibly as a schoolroom, tongue and groove panelling throughout, rooflights to rear.

Statement of Interest

Probably associated with the village school, situated in what is now the Liberton Inn until 1889 when it moved to a new building behind these cottages (now a Nursery School). Prominently sited at road junction.
