Description

Early 19th century. Long rectangular-plan barn. Rubble with harl pointing with re-used defensive features from earlier building.

E (ROAD) ELEVATION: simple door at N end; inserted figurative head to right of door; (naive incised features with open mouth). 2 reused masonry gun-loop windows used to left of door, inverted.

GABLE ELEVATIONS: ventilation slits in gable, symmetrically disposed in ascending order, 3, 2,1.

REAR ELEVATION: door; later lean-to outshot at rear (now roofless).

Graded grey slate.

Statement of Interest

The barn is listed due to the important reuse of early architectural details. These may have come from Inveruglas Castle on the island of Inveruglas, Loch Lomond, the remains of this castle are listed separately. The figurative head has an Early Christian appearance and may have come from a monastic site.
