Later 19th century. 2-storey pair of 3-bay houses, Nos 74A, 76, 78 with shop at ground. Dressed ashlar at ground with squared and coursed rubble above, ashlar quoins. Base course, moulded band course and eaves course; basket-arched openings to Nos 74A, 76, 78 at ground; chamfered arrises to Nos 72 and 74 at ground, and to both with hoodmoulds at 1st floor.
W (High Street) elevation: Nos 72 and 74: symmetrical. Deep-set panelled timber door with 2-pane fanlight at centre, windows in flanking bays and regular windows at 1st floor. Nos 74A, 76, 78: deep-set tenement door with fanlight to outer right, wide opening at centre with door to right and display window to left, further wide opening beyond with later infill. Regular windows at 1st floor.
4- and 8-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case windows, shop windows blocked. Grey slates. Cavetto coped ashlar stacks with moulded cans and ashlar coped skews with gablet skewputt to N.
Listed as example of good terraced burgh architecture in prominent High Street location.
