Description

Earlier 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay, symmetrical rectangular-plan farmhouse with single storey flanking steading range forming symmetrical wings, and farm court at rear; forming approximate U-plan. Stugged squared and snecked sandstone with ashlar margins and dressings. Base course, quoin strips.

SE (MAIN) ELEVATION: pilastered and corniced doorpiece at centre; panelled door, 2-pane fanlight, inner multipaned door; symmetrical flanking windows. Windows symmetrically disposed at 1st floor. Single storey, 2-bay wing to right, pantry with window, broad gable of steading range to outer right, window at centre, blind window above, girded opening to left. Wing to left 2-storey, formerly granary, broad gable to outer left, window off-centre to right at ground, blind window above.

NW (REAR) ELEVATION: 3 near-symmetrical bays, large stair window at centre 1st floor, 12-lying-pane sash and case, flanking smaller windows. Door altered as small window at centre, window to right; later bipartite window to outer left; entrance through scullery in range to left.

8-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof, ashlar coping to skews and skewputts; apex stacks.

INTERIOR: not seen 1995.

STEADING: rubble; ashlar coping to skews and skewputts; slate roof; apex coped stacks on bothy block.; cast-iron roof lights in bothy range; 8-pane timber sash and case windows.

NE RANGE: long, single storey gabled rectangular-plan cattle shed, later lean-to shelter toward N end. Pointed arch flight holes at centre in gablehead. Ashlar coping to skews.

SW RANGE: granary and implement shed linked to U-plan bothy to NW.
