Early to earlier 19th century houses, 1 raised to include attic, merged and altered to form inn with carriage pend probably late in the 19th century or early 20th century. Rendered with painted base course, cills and jambs. Segmental carriage pend slapped in to left of 2-storey, 3-bay house at right of hotel; windows to remaining bays and above. Entrance through pend. Taller 2-storey house to left with 4 windows at ground, 2 at 1st floor, and 2 gabled dormers breaking eaves to attic. Plate glass glazing to sash and case windows; multi-pane upper sashes to ground floor windows to left of pend. Grey slates to taller section, rubberoid to tower. Stack to taller mutual gable. Regrettable alterations to rear.
Groome refers only to the Commercial Inn and the Galloway Arms, indicating the County Hotel was formed after this date, around the turn of the century.
