Description

J Russell Mackenzie, Aberdeen, architect, 1866. 2-storey
bank, 5-bay SE street frontage with additional curved bays
at angles and 3-bay SW frontage to Cowie Lane. End curved
bays flanked by giant pilasters with round-headed entrance
at junction Traill Street/Cowie Lane and further entrance to
Traill Street. Round-headed openings to ground floor,
wider in outer bays; long and short detailing to doors and
ground floor windows; cill bank links 1st floor windows;
eaves bank, cornice and blocking course; 3 canted dormers;
paired ridge stacks, end stack; shallow piended slate roof.
Modern lean-to addition and forestair to rear.

Statement of Interest

Corner site with Cowie Lane. Formerly Aberdeen Town and

County Bank. The succes of this building in Thurso led to

commission to design Thurso Town Hall in 1870.
