Statement of Interest

The lower proportions of this dwelling house, in contrast of its neighbours, suggests that it slightly predates them because when 2-storey dwelling houses were first being built in the late 17th century it was common to build a first floor of slightly smaller height than the ground floor. Only towards the end of the century were floors of equal height built. In the recent restoration of the house the roof was pantiled; pantiles were the first types of tiling to be used to replace thatching, slate was used later.
