Description

Later 19th century. 2-storey and attic, 16-bay, Baroque tenement with altered shops to ground. Ashlar, channelled at 1st storey; rubble to rear. Vermiculated pilasters between shops to ground. Cornice to ground, dentilled eaves cornice, blocking course. Off-centre pediment with decoratively carved tympanum. Lugged architraved windows with keystones and console-topped pilasters to alternate bays. Predominantly piended, canted dormers. Some timber mullions to shops.

Predominantly 4-pane timber sash and case windows to 1st storey. Plate glass to ground and some non-traditional windows to dormers. Grey slates. Ridge stacks.

Statement of Interest

This is a well-detailed and distinctive Baroque tenement which forms an important part of the streetscape of this part of Perth. The plethora of detail to the 1st storey is unusual for Perth.

South Methven Street was laid out in 1791 in the line of the old Medieval wall of the city. The street is one of the main thoroughfares in Perth.
