Description

Late 19th century. Pair of symmetrical 2-storey 3-bay semi-detached L-plan houses, mirrored about centre. Bull-faced squared and snecked cream sandstone with polished dressings, stugged margins. Regular fenestration; tabbed margins; stop-chamfered arrises, segmental-headed windows at 1st floor, breaking eaves with gabled dormerheads. Overhanging eaves with exposed rafters.

N (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: each house with projecting gabled centre bay with stop-chamfered corners; roll-moulded shouldered doorpiece with arched and crenellated cresting; window at 1st floor and blank shield in gablehead. Flanking bays with bipartite windows at ground (later large projecting bipartite window to left at Bridgelands).

END ELEVATIONS: blank to Bridgelands; Rowanbank with windows to both floors to left and window to right at ground.

REAR ELEVATION: each house with projecting gabled outer bay.

Timber sash and case windows with horns and plate glass (some multi-pane to rear). Grey slates; coped stugged apex ashlar stacks; octagonal cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1994.

BOUNDARY WALL AND GATEPIERS: rubble whinstone boundary wall with semicircular coping; tapered stop-chamfered ashlar gatepiers (1 pair infilled). Modern stone garage to E.
