Description

T G Abercrombie, architect 1898. Free Renaissance 7-bay
centre block, 3-storey but windowless at 2nd floor between
advanced 3-bay, 3-storey outer blocks. Ashlar, deep plinths,
channelled at ground floor window level; rusticated quoins
to wings Ionic columns on pedestals flank door. Round-headed
Gibbsian windows and cill course at ground floor;
entablature over. 1st floor windows straight-headed,
architraved with keystones, and alternate segmental and
triangular pediments; cill course and projecting aproned
panels. Central 1st floor window flanked by pilasters has
larger segmental pediment. 15-pane glazing to ground and
1st floor windows in wings with ornate cartouches between.
Eaves entablature; frieze decorated over wings; dentilled
and modillioned cornice. 3-bay west elevation treated as
front but blind east elevation.
