1819, 2 storey villa, symmetrical 3 windows wide. Central
arched doorway containing original fanlight and narrow
side lights; railed steps up. Piended slate roof, droved
ashlar front, with 1st floor cill string course; south
side rubble; north rendered; end stacks. 6 pane sash
windows. Rendered high garden wall, with battered top,
central doorway with raised sandstone margins and coping
above. Modern vehicular gateway towards north end.
Octagonal gazebo dated 1776. Domed slate roof with urn
finial. Chimney in form of an urn, above eaves at angle
to right of door. Ogee headed window on back side, above
level of garden wall. Curved parapetted forestair, housing
external heating furnace, leads to ogee headed doorway
with fanlight; sandstone rubble with raised window and
door margins. 9 pane top, 6 lower sash windows. Brick
vaults over mainroom and cellar.
Built for Capt John Horne, 42nd Regiment on Foot. Used as
North Esk Church Manse form 1897-1969. Garden house built
for Professor George Stuart in garden of Eskside Villa
(dem. 19th c). Used by his son Gilbert Stuart (1742-1785),
historian.
