Description

Circa 1880. Cast-iron lamp standard. Decorative moulded base and capital with foliate motifs, fluted shaft, lantern (glass missing).

Statement of Interest

Former Provost's lamp, forming pair with that at 50 Hill Street, listed separately. The lamps originate from the Queen's Hotel, Nethergate, Dundee (John Young and Andrew Meldrum, 1878), and were later erected at the Majestic Cinema (formerly Her Majesty's Theatre), Seagate. They were bought by Monifieth Burgh with a further pair (one listed at 50 Hill Street, the other destroyed) following a fire at the cinema during the Second World War.
