Description

David MacKenzie, 1829. 2-storey, 3-bay symmetrical, classically detailed house; lower 2-storey service wing to rear; coursed stugged ashlar and coursed rubble with ashlar dressings, dry dash to E elevation; slate platform roof; 12-pane sash and case glazing throughout.

S ELEVATION: giant angle pilasters, shallow advanced central bay with Doric portico, recessed door with transom-light; windows with raised margins, moulded band course and cornice at 1st floor level; main cornice with blocking course and anthemion at corners of central bay.

E AND W ELEVATION: 2-bay, pedimented detail below corniced central wallhead stacks; glazing altered on W elevation ground floor; blind at 1st floor (left) and both floors (left) at E elevation.

Symmetrical shouldered and corniced stacks at N elevation.

2-bay service wing with gable dormerheads; skew gable with corniced and chamfered stack.

INTERIOR: decorative cornices and plain painted timber chimneypieces (grates not original) in dining and drawingrooms, fine ceiling rose in drawingroom; well stair with alternate decorative and plain cast-iron balusters, and timber rail; original cast-iron basket firegrate in 1st floor service wing.

Statement of Interest

NE wing demolished, new manse and bungalows built in garden 1988.
