Early 17th century; restored 1958. 3-storey and attic 3-bay traditional gable-fronted tenement with pend and shop at ground, crowstepped and chimneyed gable. Cream coursed Pardovan sandstone rubble, ashlar dressings to N elevation.
S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central door with wide round-arched pend to right, chamfered reveals, window to left. Regular fenestration to 1st and 2nd floor, 1 window to attic.
Segmental-arched entrance to enclosed forestair with red pantiled roof at outer left.
N (REAR) ELEVATION: 2-storey wing, pantiled roof.
12-pane sash and case windows. T-plan roof, thick grey slates.
INTERIOR: gutted.
A group with adjoining No 48. The tenement is called Hamiltons' Land (with No 48) after the Hamiltons of Pardovan and Humbie who built them. Restored by the National Trust of Scotland as part of their Little Houses Scheme.
