John Smeaton, engineer, part of Dunbartonshire eastern
section of Forth-clyde canal built 1768-75. Aqueduct,
single wide segmental arch carrying canal over roadway,
latter in turn carried by tunnelled low 2-arched bridge
over Luggie Water. All built of grey ashlar.
AQUEDUCT: key-stoned arch; walling above follows curve of
waterway with band course supported on stone blocks;
decorative cast-iron railings. BRIDGE: bull-faced and
rusticated facing mid 19th century and relates to former
LNER railway track but may be an extension of earlier bridge.
