Description

Peddie and Kinnear (builder McCandlish) for Provost William McEwan, 1864. 3-storey, 5-bay Italianate bank and bank manager's house. Squared snecked rubble with yellow polished sandstone dressings. Raked cope to plinth forms cill course to ground floor windows, moulded cill course to 2 upper floors. Deeply recessed doors in outer bays under stilted semi-elliptical moulded arches, supported by short engaged stylised Corinthian columns. 3 stilted segmental-headed bipartites divided by Corinthian shafts. 3 similarly detailed windows in 1st floor but with shallow pointed heads. Single window in outer bays. 2nd floor windows detailed as 1st, except for flat heads. Corbelled cornice. Piended slate roof with red ridge tiles.
