William Williamson, 1905, altered at ground circa 1985. 3-storey, 3-bay classical former bank building, now with shop at ground. Polished sandstone ashlar with channelled pilastered quoin strips. Mutuled ground floor and eaves cornices. Architraved and corniced windows.
S (HIGH STREET) ELEVATION: asymmetrical at ground. Ground floor with pedimented and keystoned doorcase, flanking pilasters and volute capitals and 2-leaf glazed door with deep, blocked fanlight in bay to left of centre; 2 tall arcaded windows (see Notes) to right. Ground floor cornice forms plinth for giant channelled pilasters flanking each upper storey bay and supporting entablature and open pediment at centre over recessed bay. 1st floor with pedimented window to centre and corniced windows in flanking bays, all with keystones; 2nd floor with
3 smaller windows, that to centre with consoled cornice below keystoned segmental moulding in broken pediment.
E ELEVATION: 2-storey modern building adjoining slightly projecting centre bay with narrow lights on return to left at 1st and 2nd floor.
Plate glass glazing in top-opening windows, fixed display windows to ground. Grey slates to piend and platform roof. Coped ashlar stacks.
Former Royal Bank of Scotland. Prior to the alterations at ground, there was a further entrance to ground right (S), lower architraved and corniced door with oculus above.
