Description

Later 18th century, altered in late 19th century. Originally
7 bay, 2 storey raised to 3 storeys in late 19th century.
Ground floor: paired pilasters at ends may survive from
earlier/mid 19th century shop-front, the broad canted bay
and centre door with oversailing cornice carried on brackets
are later 19th century. Upper floors rendered with rusticated
angle quoins and moulded window architraves. Centre window
altered to Venetian moulded architrave apparently inserted in
the centre of the new 2nd floor, whose windows otherwise have
plain margins; cornice at wallhead, straight skews, brick
stacks, slated roof.

century vaulted cellar (see Royal Commission on Ancient

Monuments of Scotland, Roxburghshire
