Description

Ross & Macbeth, 1885, Free Italianate coursers; 3 storeys
and attic, 9-bay front to Queensgate with centre and end
bays pilastered; at ground floor, Ruskinian Gothic arcaded
shopfronts, their columns bearing consoles carrying
wrought-iron balconies at 1st floor; at 1st floor end
windows corbelled out from wall as canted bays with
balustraded parapet, 2nd and 8th windows segmental
pedimented; at 2nd floor, windows architraved, 1st and 9th
tripartite. Canted pilastered corners with balustered
balconies corbelled out from wall below first floor windows.
Front to Church Street, arched ground floor windows, consoled
balconies at 1st floor windows. Front to Post Office Lane,
simply arcaded ground floor. At north-east front arcaded
ground floor. Slated mansard roof and pedimented dormers.
