Built by Alexander Maitland on site of medieval house; 17th
century, 3-storey and basement L-plan harled with slated
roof, crowstepped gable and re-entrant octagonal turret stair
at rear; balustraded front stair with ball finialled dies,
doric columned open porch with segmental roof; porch bears
initials of Alexander Maitland and Katherine Cunninghame; a 2
storey bowed section was added at the turret stairs in Regency
times and a lower wing added in 18th century; house contains
fine interior work, one 1st floor room has pilastered chimney
piece with painted panel over mantel.
restored in 1970 by Lamp of the Lothian
Porch was added in 1680 when main door was changed from
turret stair to Sidegate
