INTERIOR OF BAR: Largely altered. Retains early 20th century timber U-plan bar counter with stone spittoon at base. Gantry replaced in 1993.
COURTYARD BUILDINGS: variety of outbuildings serving coaching inn forming U-plan open to N. 2-storey, 4-bay block to W, with apex stacks and graded slates. Single storey piend-roofed link to street front bar at S of group.
This early 19th century former coaching inn is a significant addition to the streetscape on this main thoroughfare in Gourock. The retention of the former stables and outbuildings to the rear of the building adds to the interest and character of the building. The interior of the pub has undergone some alteration, but it retains a good quality, early 20th century timber U-plan bar counter and the stone spittoon around the base of the bar area is a rare survival.
