Elaborate terra-cotta fountain by A E Pearce of Doulton's for 1888 Glasgow Empire Exhibition; re-sited here 1890. 3 tiered basins within wide outer basin and with figures representative of the British Empire, surmounted by Queen Victoria.
In neglected condition in 1992 with at least one figure kept for safety in People's Palace museum, nearby. Repaired and restored in 2004 and repositioned in front of People's Palace. The fountain is now fully functioning and floodlit (2005).
