A Kennedy, Son and Myles, 1872-3 as works for Howe Sewing Machine Company, several ranges on a triangular island site, and with 2 cut-down though still substantial chimney stalks. Long 17-bay 3-storey range to Fielden Street with low range adjoining to S, its long return elevation to barrowfield Street with continuous roof ventilator; red and contrasting yellow brick; blocked eaves; slate roofs, glazing mostly original, 2 wide slappings to Fieldon Street at ground floor; taller range to W originally at centre of complex, but main block which adjoined at W was demolished 1969.
Howe's were squeezed out of the sewing machine market by Singer, and they turned to cycle manufacture, but that enterprise did not survive long either.
