Description

H E Cliffrd, 1901 (dated), as board school. Art Nouveau ornament. Tall red ashlar block, 3 storeys above rock-faced basement, snecked and polished ashlar above, piended slate roof with unusual curved deep eaves, stacks, distinctive leaded roof ventilator at each roof piend; near-identical opposing elevations, the N and S each with 3-bay centrepiece with full-height pilaster strips, curved pediment shape over wall-head; longer flank elevations each with low entrance bay, and with ranks of single windows, upper windows with colonnaded mullions, full-width balcony with eaves swept over. 2-storey Janitor's LODGE to NW with steep piended and platformed roof, advanced centre gabled bay to W, prominent end stacks. Playground walls mainly red ashlar (modern at N) with wrought-iron gates and railings.
