McKissack & Rowan, 1881-82. 4-storey 4-by 3-bay corner
tenement with canted angle, pub and shop at ground. Ashlar.
Ground floor altered except original pedimented stair
entrance at Harvie Street. Upper floors have 3 windows in
canted bay, 2 recessed bay windows. All 1st floor windows
corniced. Cill string course and continuous cornice on 2nd
floor. Plaque initialled J S dated 1882 on 3rd floor.
Steep slate facetted roof at angle with ogee lantern and
finial. 3 pedimented panels and 2 wallhead stacks with
pilaster strips. Similar stacks flank scroll pedimented
parapet on E bay with steep slate roof behind.
Some windows retain small-paned upper sashes.
Interior ground floor: pub altered. Shop has corbelled
plaster cornices and ornate cast-iron columns.
Built for James Sinclair. Known as Avondale Place. McConnel's patent girders specified in the construction.
